Good evening friends.
I’m just sitting here, waiting for a youtube video to upload so I thought I’d take advantage of the time and write a blog post.
This past week we had what’s called the polar vortex, or as our weather man described it, stupid cold. He wasn’t wrong really. It was just so incredibly cold, we were all in amazement when our thermometers read -18, but windchill made it -45!!! The town I live in shut down majority of businesses and that included the companies my husband and I work for. I was very grateful for it, I just don’t think anyone needed to be out in that weather. Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant now, but I was actually a bit nervous to travel in weather that cold. My truck didn’t want to start, and I was nervous that being exposed in the parking lot, that it wouldn’t want to start at all when my shift ended. Maybe I was worrying for nothing, but I just felt safer staying home, the products I sell, people could live without it for a day or two.
However, just because I was home for a few days in a row, didn’t mean I was lazing in bed the whole time. I was busy! I edited a client’s wedding video from start to finish and it took 2 1/2 days, or roughly 18-20 hours when it was all said and done. I tell ya, I loved every part of it. I got up in the mornings, made some hot tea, ate breakfast, then came upstairs to our office and didn’t move for hours at a time. I just focused on the video I was creating and got it completed. It was so much fun creating it, I just love doing this! I started my videography business in September 2018, and since then, I have done one baby shower and I’m about to do my third wedding in March. I actually just met with my bride tonight for that. I’ll be honest with you, if I could do this everyday for a living, I would do it in a heart beat. Creating content for both my clients and my channel is the most fun thing I’ve ever done. Each video is special and has a meaning behind it, and it’s just fun to look back on the things you’ve created and how you’ve improved with each video.
I think I’m writing to tell you that, dreams start small. We may always say DREAM BIG but think about it, all these dreams just start small. I did the my first 3 jobs for people I knew, but this next job I’m doing, I put myself out there, and got results!! I was terrified too! One day at my job, the bride I’m working with now, came into the store and bought something wedding related. I can’t remember if I said something first about it or if she did. I almost didn’t say anything, I almost just let her walk out the door and we both go about our way, but I didn’t, I went for it. I waited almost for the last possible second, but I said, (most likely in an awkward way), “Hey, I’m not sure if you have a videographer yet, but if you are interested in one, I’d be more than happy to do it for you. I’m just starting out, but I’ve done 2 weddings before this, and actually created my own wedding video. Here’s my information, just incase you are interested.”
I went for it. It was scary, and brave all at the same time, and I got results. I did it, and probably a month later, I got a message on facebook and it was from her, saying she was interested and she wanted more information. I couldn’t believe it, someone wants to hire me!? Someone I don’t know from before!! I was honestly in amazement by it, and I’m still in amazement!!! I’m just thankful for this opportunity and I’m excited to see where all my videography takes me throughout 2019.
Dreams start small, it’s just how it has to be. You take one step and then another step, and then before you know it, you’re doing your dream, and it’s amazing. I still have a long way to go before I’d call myself a professional videographer, but hey, I’m here filming weddings, getting paid for it, and getting better with each wedding I film. I’m loving life and loving what creating a YouTube channel has done for me. I never thought that almost 2 years ago, I would start to make a side job out of hitting the record button. It’s a beautiful thing to see.
What is your dream? Have you started small yet? What steps do you need to take to start small in order to be big!! You can do it, whatever it is, you can do it!!
